After 1921, Remington employed a “date code” system which consists of a series of letters identifying the month and year of manufacture. This date code is typically 2-3 letters hand stamped on the jacket head (refer to the photograph below for location). The first letter in the code represents the month. Jul 12, 2011 Any suggestions for determing a manufacturing date for a Remington Model 11-A autoloading shotgun (Remington UMC)? ( I saw you post this, and thought you might know.) Serial number is 190-. Everything I find on the web says 1921 and later and the barrel code on the left side ( 3 ltrs) doesn't work on the sites I find. Kinda struggling at this point. 800-243-9700 is Remington's customer service number. Give them a call and they can date your 11 for you. Very few 11s have ever been worn out. I've seen old market hunter 11s with mag extensions and roached finishes over on the Shore with thousands of rounds (and waterfowl) behind them that run perfectly.

Remington Owners, Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.
